Xylotrechus villioni (Villard)

• Taxonomy: Coleoptera, Cerambycidae.

• Body size: mature larvae: ca. 50 mm long; adalts 25-30 mm long.

• Host: Abies sachalinensis Masters

• Distribution: Hokkaido, Honshu

• Damage: Larvae bore injure the bark/sapwood interface, and bore into the sapwood of living trees. The trees are killed by only one or two larvae, as they 樹幹のじん皮部を一巻きするように食害する. また，加害部のまきこみによって枯死をまぬがれた立木も，その部分で樹幹が変形し，材の利用価値を減ずるのみならず，風による中折れの原因にもなる。

• Life cycle: Detaled information about the life cycle is absent. Adalts appear from late June to August, and deposit eggs into the branches and the trunk of the host tree. Egg niches invisible. Young larva randamly feed into the cambium layer, then bore into the sapwood, and 多くの木屑を排出する. After that the larvae bore into the cambium layer to make a elongated spiral larval gallery. Then, the larvae bore from the center of the gallery into the sapwood again, pupate in 樹幹下方に向って長い蛹室. New adalts go through the larval garallery and make a rounded pore in bark to emerge.

Monochamus urssovi（Fischer）

• Taxonomy: Coleoptera, Cerambycidae.

• Body size: mature larvae: ca. 48 mm long; adalts 15-35 mm long.

• Hosts: Abies sachalinensis Masters, Picea jezoensis Carr., Picea glehnii Masters, and Larix leptolepis Gordon

• Distribution: Hokkaido, Sakhalin, Korea, north China, Siberia, and north Europe.

• Damage: Larvae bore into the balk/sapwood interface or sapwood of blighted, cutted or fallen trees. This species frequently found together with Scolytids beetles.風倒地や伐採跡地周辺の日当りのよい林縁木，あるいは，土場積した丸太等が被害を受けやすい。This species never injure living trees in health.

• Life cycle: There is one generation par one to two years. This species pass the winter in the larval stage. Larvae pupate in the 材内の蛹室, emerge from middle of June to late September, and new adalts escape from the wood with new rounded pore. Adalts feeding the bark layer of young shoots for maturing, and this habit often causes withering of the shoots. Matured beetles are attracted to the weakened or fallen trees at the open space. After the mating, females 雌は交尾の後，樹幹の粗皮に長さ7〜8mmのかみきずを大あごでつくり，その中心 に産卵管を入れて樹皮中に1個ずつ産卵する（産卵痕）。ふ化した幼虫は形成層 部分（じん皮部と辺材の一部）を不規則に食害し，ある程度大きくなると材部に 穿入する。材中にかなりの孔道をほって末端部に多少広い室をつくり粗い木屑を あつめて蛹室をつくり，蛹化する。

• As expected from its life cylcle, this species never infest the wood lacking bark layer, as the beetle deposits eggs into the bark. This is also in the same condition for the other beetles having same ovifesting habit.

Acalolepta luxuriosa（Bates）

• Taxonomy: Coleoptera, Cerambycidae.

• Body size: mature larvae: ca. 50 mm long; adalts 20-36 mm long.

• Hosts: Kalopanax pictus Nakai, Tilia japonica Shimonkai, Fatsia japonica (Thunb.)

• Distribution: Japan, Kuril Islands, Korea, and China.

• Damage: Young larvae feed bark/sapwood interface, and mature larvae bore into the sapwood. This species occationary found on the young dead tree at the plantation of Kalopanax pictus, howeverit is unknown whether the trees were killed by this beetle or not.

• Life cycle: Detailed information about the life cicle of this species is absent. Larvae pass the winter in the sapwood, pupate in the early June, emerge in the end of the month. Adalts feed on the bark of young shoots of broadleafed trees, ovifest into the follen and/or cutted trees.

• Taxonomy: Coleoptera, Cerambycidae.

• Body size: mature larvae: ca. 47 mm long; adalts 20-30 mm long.

• Hosts: Salicaceae spp., and Acer mono Maxim.

• Distribution: Japan.

• Damage: Larvae infect living trees.

• Life cycle: There is one generation par two or three years. Females depesit several eggs in longitudinally injured narrow tranks of the host tree during June to August. Larvae pass the first winter in 2-3rd instar, the second winter in fifth inster, then the new adalts emerge in the third year. Larvae, which passed the first winter in the fourth instar, pupate in July, then emerge in August of the second year.

Following two species are quite harmful as the vecters of pine wood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus (Steiner and Buhrer), although these are not distributed in Hokkaido.

• Life cycle: There is one generation par one or two years in Tohoku district.

• Distribution: Honshu, Shikoku, Sakhalin, north part of Paraearctic region.

• Life cycle: There is one generation par one or two years in Tohoku district.
